Jolene Cini and Sarah
Spiteri , will be exhibiting their abstract work on canvas in an
exhibition entitled “Bla Rima”, at Gallarija Liberta GWU
Valletta between the 13th June and
13th July 2008
,
8.30am
and
7.00 pm
.
The name for the
exhibition was chosen primarily because the work to be exhibited
doesn’t match the work amongst the 2 artists and even in one
artist’s work the paintings hold different styles. Secondly, the
artists being very proud to be Maltese decided to hold the
exhibition in Maltese , so they can feature Maltese poems and put
up the typical Maltese atmosphere that is being forgotten.
About the artists :
Sarah Spiteri has a
natural uncouth, instinctive need to create spontaneously, always
with a sense of immediacy. To a certain extent, being untutored in
this field, Sarah has made her own way of developing her thoughts.
A typical characteristic of Sarah’s work is applying paint with
her nail-bitten fingers, showing off her bubbly character in the
way she moves her hands along non-straight lines. The use of
natural resources and recycled material proves Sarah’s love and
respect towards the environment. Through the art of theatre, Sarah
works upon emotions and actions as a result giving the observer
the energy to feel what she is imposing in her creative work. To
this day Sarah continues to produce her world of imagination on
paper, in abstract forms, always delivering a message, an
expression of freedom. Sarah hopes that her creative powers and
enthusiasm continue to grow and flourish so maybe one day, someone
may understand her fantasy.
Jolene Cini expresses
herself through art. This is shown to us by the type of oil
colours she uses and the way they are applied on canvas. Jolene
feels comfortable using dark colours like red , blue and
purple. These colours are applied by paintbrushes or a knife. One
charateristic observed in Jolene’s work is the way she
amalgamates the colours together creating a sense of harmony. The
brush strokes and application of paint with the knife create a
melodious and spiral
movement which give a sense of a rythmatic dance with colours.
Jolene would like to keep on flourishing her love towards
art
